Procomp Electronics Topfuel Dragster - The NHRA Decision Sonoma FRAM Nationals Wrap-Up 2011 08/22/2011
Procomp Electronics Topfuel Dragster - The NHRA Decision Sonoma FRAM Nationals Wrap-Up 2011 Mike and his brothers are excited about the decision of the NHRA Appeals Board overturning the original penalty of sanctioning Mike for one year. After the 3 person board interviewed Mike at great length on June 7th the decision was made to modify the penalty and let Mike return to racing at the Sonoma Nationals on July 29th through the 31st. “ There were some real gray areas in the drug testing procedure and I think by appealing and explaining what took place in Las Vegas the facts came out and made the difference in the outcome” Mike said. “We had a lot of support from all our fans and I want to thank all of them for standing by me”. This was the first race Mike and the team has been to since the Las Vegas race in April and they were anticipating doing well with the Procomp Motorsport dragster. First qualifying effort showed promise with a strong 4.12 e.t. and put Mike in the 13th position. Second qualifying the car slowed to a 4.27 e.t. and upon inspection found that the blower studs had been sheared off. The repair was made and went on to the third session. The run was a good strong run with a 3.97 e.t but it was thrown out because the engine left a small puddle of oil in the shut down area, NHRA rules it as an oil down and the run was thrown out. So on to the forth and last run, Mike made a good run with a 4.10 e.t. and was in the 16th spot until Steve Chrisman bumped him out by .003 of a second. Wow it was close but sometimes that’s the breaks. We are looking forward to the next race. Every race is an opportunity and the team is ready and up for the challenge. Add Comment NHRA Top Fuel Winternationals Wrap-up on February 24th-27th Procomp Electronics TF Dragster Results The weather was less than ideal in sunny California for the first race of the 2011 season. Upon arrival of the team it was unusually cold and rainy and the forecast was the same into Saturday for qualifying. Luckily there were some breaks in the clouds on Thursday and we were able to get a qualifying run in, with no troubles from the weather. Mike’s run didn’t fair well with a disappointing 11.15 ET as a fuel line shook loose and shut the car down. The team ended up #20 for the conclusion of the day. It was a shame as Friday’s qualifying was cancelled because of the weather, as it had continued to rain all day, and could prove to be a problem come Saturday. Saturday morning started out with Mother Nature showering down a heavy layer of snow and hail overnight; amazingly the sun came out in the afternoon and allowed for us to complete two qualifying runs. The Procomp Electronics | Motorsport dragster came through with flying colors and ran a strong 3.924 ET @ 393.03 mph to place us in positive 14th spot. Mike said “the car pulled hard through the run” and he was pleased with the results and confident it would put the team in the show. Lance Larsen, tuner, advised the team that the second Saturday run might be optional if the lower qualified cars did not show improvement, which was the case, so the team pulled out of line to prepare for eliminations on Sunday. Out of the 20 dragsters at the meet Mike ended up 15th and was scheduled to run Antron Brown who qualified #2 with a 3.80 ET in the sixteen car field. Time had come for eliminations on Sunday, Mike and Antron Brown were 7th pair. The result was a win for Antron with NHRA commenting on Mikes run as “a very nice run for the Procomp Motorsport team”. An end result of the run was Mike with a 3.97 ET and Antron with a 3.79 ET. Mike said “with all the new upgrades on the car, I’m convinced we can be a strong contender the 2011 season. The adverse conditions at this race were a worry for us all but we can see real promise with the car and we’re all looking forward to Las Vegas.” The Las Vegas Nationals are scheduled for April 1-3. Lindsay Strasburg, team manager, said “we have a lot of new parts and can see the improvements for a good qualifying number at the Vegas race.” Thank you for tuning in.
